Change the demand
A screen break is an opportunity to step away from the same posture and visual task. You might stand or move in a way that suits you, get a drink, or do a short task away from the screen. Replacing a laptop with a phone may leave much of the same demand in place.
Fit breaks into the work
Use natural transitions, such as finishing a section or ending a call. If your role makes breaks difficult, discuss how work can be organised with your manager. Accessibility needs matter: the useful change is the one available and comfortable for you.
- Identify the longest uninterrupted screen stretch.
- Choose an accessible change of activity.
- Make the next return point clear before stepping away.
A common mistake
Waiting until you are very uncomfortable before changing position or activity.
Try this next
At your next natural stopping point, leave a return note and take a brief change of activity.
